A Merchant Center suspension feels like an emergency — your ads stop, your free listings vanish, and the clock on a "request review" cooldown starts ticking. Don't request a review yet. Do this first.
Step 0: Read the suspension reason (but don't trust it to be specific)
Open Merchant Center and note the stated reason — usually "Misrepresentation", "Suspended due to policy violation", or a specific item-level issue. The reason is real, but Google deliberately keeps it vague. Treat it as a category to investigate, not a checklist.
Step 1: Understand the cooldown — and why you only get clean shots
Here's what trips up most merchants: the review button is disabled while you're suspended, and each failed re-review can lengthen the cooldown. So firing off an appeal after fixing one thing is the worst move — you burn a review, get rejected, and wait longer next time.
The winning strategy is to fix everything plausible in one pass, then request a single, clean review.
Step 2: Audit your store against what Google checks
Work through these, top to bottom:
- Refund/return policy — present, detailed, and linked in the footer. (Missing/unclear refund policy is the most common misrepresentation trigger.)
- Contact info — legal business name, email, phone, and ideally a physical address, consistent across your store and your Merchant Center settings.
- HTTPS + site functionality — secure checkout, no broken links, no placeholder text.
- Pricing — no fake "compare-at" prices, no undisclosed fees, feed price matches the landing page and structured data.
- Product data — brand + GTIN/MPN, clean images (no promo text/watermarks), real descriptions.
- Trust signals — no fake countdown timers or "X people viewing" widgets; visible payment badges help.
Step 3: Fix the root causes (not the symptoms)
For each issue above, make the fix real and durable. Examples:
- Don't just create a refund page — link it in the footer so it's reachable everywhere.
- Don't just add an email — make sure the business name and address are consistent across the site and Merchant Center.
- Don't hide an out-of-stock product — keep the page live with the price visible.
Step 4: Request the review — once, cleanly
Once your store genuinely addresses the categories above, request the review from inside Merchant Center. Be patient: reviews can take several business days, and a rushed, half-fixed appeal just resets the clock.
Step 5: If you're rejected again
If a clean, thorough appeal is still rejected, the issue is almost always something you can't see from your side — an identity inconsistency, a structured-data mismatch on product pages, or a trust gap. That's where an outside, policy-grade audit pays for itself.
The fastest path: scan before you appeal
Because Google won't tell you which signal failed, guessing wastes your limited review attempts. Run a free scan of your store — it checks your storefront and product feed against the exact categories Google reviews and gives you a prioritized, plain-English fix list. Fix the high-severity items first, then appeal once. That's how you get reinstated without burning cooldowns.
